CMS Plone 4: Changes and Developments
Advantages of version 4:
- responsive design (improved also for mobile devices)
- faster (also when editing)
- additional viewing modes (image galleries, portliest)
- easy use, modern editor (TinyMCE)
- additional add-ons
- changes no longer need to be made in ZopeManagementInterface (ZMI)
What does migration entail?
Normal content, including content in two-languages, such as
- pages
- collections
- images & files
- dates and news items
is available after migration.
Special constructs, e.g. ZMI changes, python-scripts, external methods or javascript and CSS do no longer work in phone 4 and cannot be migrated.
Content types such as
- XSLTrans
- PloneArticle
- DynDocument
- PasswordFolder
- PlonePHP
are no longer supported and cannot be migrated.
It is however still possible to make changes without having to change to ZMI.
Your tasks fr a successful migration might therefore include:
If necessary...
- changing display option for folders
- changing XSLTrans to XMLTransformer
- changing DynDocument-content to a collection or collage (new content types)
- moving content from password folders to other systems, e.g. to ILIAS

Unfortunately we are unable to offer new portals. This is due to time restrictions; exceptions may be granted by CIO, Prof. Schneider.
It is however possible to convert old, unused portals to new phone 4 portals.
The upper limit of portals has therefore be set at 800.
