The virtual classroom: possibilities and limits

A workshop on 28 May 2014 for teaching staff at Freiburg University

Virtual classrooms and online meetings offer various possibilities for teaching scenarios. Online presentations, virtual seminars or office hours are just some examples. Teachers and students meet, each from their own computer, in a virtual work room online. Communication takes place through a headset and webcam. They can collaboratively work on a document or present documents to one another. The main task for teaching staff is to prepare the virtual class room task oriented and to moderate live sessions. An advantage is that each session (or parts of it) can be recorded,

Aims

Participants will get to know various elements and functions of a virtual classroom. The will learn to plan and realize simple online meetings.

Contents 

  • basic functionalities of online meeting server Adobe Connect
  • basic aspects of online communication and moderation
  • getting to know various possibilities for designing and interacting in the virtual classroom from the participants of moderators and participants
  • designing an online meeting for a specific learning situation

Wednesday, 28 May 2014 9am to 5pm in the IT Services Building.

The workshop targets teaching staff at Freiburg University or the University of Education.
