Cosmic: competence-oriented online self-learning modules for mathematics, interculturalism and chemistry
cosmic is an offer of the project "M5: More success in the introductory phase of studies". The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the framework of the Quality Pact for Teaching II and aims to improve the introductory phase of studies with the help of online modules.
Project goals
Improvement of the study entry phase through
- Promotion of the development of competences in mathematics and chemistry in the so-called MINT subjects in the introductory phase of studies
- Promotion of intercultural acculturation and the development of intercultural skills among international students and lecturers
- Development of materials and formats that enable and simplify the start of studies for non-traditional students.
Target groups
- Prospective students and students in the introductory phase
- 3 specific student groups:
1. Students of other faculties attending courses in Mathematics
2. Students of other faculties attending courses in Chemistry
3. International students in undergraduate courses and non-traditional students
Online self-study modules
- E-learning supported self-learning elements on ILIAS, the central e-learning platform of the University of Freiburg
- Self-study modules as a modular principle: self-diagnosis tool for prospective students, bridging offer, support during the introductory phase
- Competence orientation in the design and development of the offers
- Production of the materials as OER (Open Educational Resources)
