01.12.2022: Dr Detlev Degenhardt retires from the RZ
Detlev Degenhardt was hired in February 1994 as a research assistant at the Computer Centre of the University of Freiburg. At the beginning, his professional focus was on looking after the CIP pools at the time and supporting the CIP officers of the faculties in the operation and installation of applications. This brought him extensive networking in almost all departments of the university early on. In the early 2000s, he became deputy head of the "Application Systems" department until he was entrusted with the management of the department as Dr Böbel's successor in 2007.
As the IT landscape developed more and more towards web applications during this time and the area of e-learning, which was integrated into the department, also became increasingly important, the department was renamed "Information Systems and E-Learning" in 2008. In this function, Mr Degenhardt was responsible for the further development of the central Content Management System (CMS) infrastructure. With the development of virtualisation and the consolidation of the storage infrastructure, he set essential accents for the strategic IT development of the University. Detlev Degenhardt was also responsible for the procurement of licences and played a key role in launching the state tenders "bwPC and bwNotebook", which have been successfully coordinated by the computer centre for many years. In 2016, the area of e-learning was separated into its own department, and the focus areas of "virtualisation and storage systems" became the name of the computer centre department, which he headed until his retirement.
In addition to his professional commitment to the Computer Centre, Detlev Degenhardt has always been involved in various committees and working groups at the university in a very constructive and solution-oriented manner. Particularly noteworthy are his efforts to further develop the Centre for Key Qualifications. Likewise, through tireless efforts to formulate forward-looking ideas and visions, he has contributed to the steady further development of the Computing Centre. Through his level-headed manner and comprehensive moderation skills, he has been an important confidant for employees of the Computing Centre, contributing at all times to the pleasant and consensus-oriented working atmosphere.
We wish him all the best for his time in retirement and hope to be able to call on him for many more years as an advisor in the background and to welcome him as a guest at suitable events.
For the Computing Centre:
