2023-10-17: Presentation of bwLehrpool at the 79th DFN Operational Conference

The German Research Network (DFN) holds its 79th Operations Conference in Berlin. In the Cloud Forum in the afternoon, "DFN-federated" services, including bwLehrpool, were presented. The forum provided an opportunity for the various stakeholders at universities and research institutions to learn about the new federated service "bwLehrpool". This is intended to gradually extend the state service, which has been established for some time, into a federated offering that can be used at the end of the year.

The content of the presentation included the presentation of the current state service "bwLehrpool" for virtual teaching environments as well as the provision of non-persistent virtual pool room computers with further aspects, such as the location-independent functionality (bwLehrpool-Remote) as well as extensions for el. doorplates (with occupancy, calendar) and pool video switch. "bwLehrpool" is to be gradually included in the offering within the federated DFN cloud, so that all members of DFN can easily use this service at their institution as well.
In addition to the basic functions (SAT server, bwLehrpool suite), the option of conducting digital exams in the bwLehrpool was briefly informed. After the presentation, there was a brief outlook on ongoing activities within PePP regarding the planned Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. The discussion included topics such as the integration of the bwLehrpool into existing IT infrastructures, technical aspects and potential extensions of the offer.
