Our colleague Romaric David (Université de Strasbourg) spoke on cooperation and governance of HPC infrastructure projects and institutions in Strasbourg and the Elsaß region as well as France more generally. In the scientific part of the symposium, several users of HPC resources in Freiburg presented, for instance, Dr. Stefan Schacht (KIT Karlsruhe) on "Testing the Standard Model with Charm Meson Decays" and Prof. Dr. Stefan Rotter (Berstein Center, Freiburg University) on "Networks for vision: Large-scale recurrent network simulatiosn of the first stages of visual processing in the neocortex". Freiburg's HPC Team moreover presented a poster in cooperation with colleagues working with Günter Quast and Thomas Hauth. This poster hat solutions for virtual research environments in HPC use through OpenStack cloud technologies as its topic.
