bwCloud: Completion of maintenance and expansion cycle
After the successful completion of the two big hardware dates, the maintenance on December 12 and the provision of the faster hardware, the last step of the December 2019/January 2020 maintenance and expansion cycle of the bwCloud SCOPE has successfully been completed.
In this cycle, we did not only undertake maintance and restructuring work, but also
- built in high-memory nodes
- migrated Ceph-Pools onto SSD hard drives
- introduced a special High Core Flavor
- successfully installed Tesla T4 Graphic Cards
The last point means that from now on GPU resources can be requested. Users in the Freiburg Region can then use those (with time restrictions). This is especially useful for short projects that need special GPU computing power. High Core Flavor can now be requested as well, which, relatively speaking, includes more CPU cores. These have a higher number of vCPU compared to the previous ones.
If you are interested in GPU resources or in the bwCloud in general, register here. After, write a ticket with the required specifications for a quoata extension to the ticket system. Should you want more information or have any questions, please check our Q&A or open a ticket in the ticket system.
