Adobe Connect - new version, new server

With Adobe Connect 9.5, the newest version of this web-based video conference service is available at Freiburg University. Users can enjoy new functions of this powerful hardware.

After an extensive planning phase, the new software and hardware have now been introduced and updated. The E-Learning Service Center thereby ensures that online meetings will be able to take place with continuously rising numbers of users. The server change entailed also a consolidation of data. This includes a work-flow for converting flash-based meeting recordings to MP4.

 

Rising number of users


Since its introduction at Freiburg University in 2007, user numbers have been rising continuously, largely due to the increasing area of continuing education in research. The E-Learning Service Center recorded over 300 meeting organizers who are using the virtual environment regularly (e.g. for online courses, virtual lectures, recordings, online-meetings, online office hours, blended-learning scena

 

Multiple functions

 

Users value Adobe Connect especially since it allows communication independent of location. Meeting participants can communicate in real time. They merely need a computer with an internet connection, or a smartphone or tablet with a Connect-Mobile-App. In the online meeting room, participants can share documents and discuss them, they can brainstorm on interactive whiteboards, share their screen-view, and collaborate in multiple ways. Online votings and the possibility of recording sessions are an additional function.

 

New functions in version 9.5


Adobe Connect 9.5 allows the export of recordings directly in  MP4-format. This format can then be accessed on mobile devices that do not support flash. Moreover, HTML-5-contents can be incorporated. The screen-sharing function is an additional new function. Videos can now be transmitted at 480p. If broadband is limited, video transmission can be paused for inactive participants automatically.

Adobe Connect is available for all members of Freiburg University. If you have a uniAccount, you can be registered as a meeting organizer. You will be supplied with a meeting room that you can self-administrate (inviting participants, opening it to guests, etc.) Please contact us directly, giving a name for your meeting room, and potentially naming other people you would like to co-administer this space: onlinemeetings@rz.uni-freiburg.de
