26.06.2019: Wifi eduroam - change in root certificate
On July 9, the Telekom root certificate is expiring. For this reason, we will change the certificate in the eduroam wifi to the new root certificate on June 25, 2019.
Should you encounter any issues with authentication after the change, deleting the wifi profile and reconnecting with the eduroam wifi usually fixes it.
Should you still need help, please contact your local administrator or beratung@rz.uni-freiburg.de.
With newer systems (Windows 8.1/10, iOS12.x, Android > 8, current Linux distribution) no issues should arise, since the Telekom root certificates (T-TeleSec GlobalRoot Class 2/T-TeleSec GlobalRoot Class 3) are already installed there. Certificate issues may arise with very old operating systems (10+ years), since the Telekom root certificate is missing --> install the new root certificate.
CAUTION:
If in the client in the wifi configuration the old root certificate is installed (certificate planning), the device will not be able to sign in to the eduroam wifi. Here, the new certificate must be seleceted or the certificate must be omitted entirely.
Generally, the change should not create too many issues. However, due to the large variety of operating systems and devices, not everything could be tested.
