15 October 2025, 1:07 p.m.: Status update CommuniGate: Security enhancements
#ufrstatus Status of the migration of the central mail server from CommuniGate to MailSpec: As announced, the server was migrated due to insufficient security compliance. As part of this process, webmail access has now been uniformly changed to HTML5 and is now called ‘Pronto’.
Pronto web interface
- Upgrade to the current encryption standard TLS1.2 or TLS1.3: Our mail server currently meets the ‘A+’ encryption standard again. This means we comply with the highest security standard in the POPS, IMAPS, HTTPS and SMTPS transport protocols. In principle, BSI recommends TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3, although the more modern TLS 1.3 protocol should be used in preference according to BSI.
- As we announced here on 29 September 2025, the appearance of the webmail access has changed as part of the upgrade. On the home page, you will now be greeted by ‘Pronto’, which offers you a comprehensive and modern HTML5 interface.
- For mailing list administrators, we have provided access via the legacy interface https://mail.uni-freiburg.de/?Skin=Basic. This access allows you to manage subscribers and moderated messages.
- Nothing has changed for students and enrolled doctoral candidates; they can access webmail via the Academic Cloud login at https://email.uni-freiburg.de.
