21 October 2025, 10:50 a.m.: Introduction of two-factor authentication (2FA) with Keycloak on the virtualisation infrastructure

#ufrstatus

As part of the successful migration of our infrastructure to VMware vSphere 8, two-factor authentication (2FA) will be introduced on 15 October 2025. This measure serves to make our systems even more secure and to protect access to virtual environments more effectively.

What is changing?

Introduction of 2FA via Keycloak:

Keycloak will be used as the central identity provider (IdP) for authentication in future. All users will have to authenticate themselves with a second factor in future.

Standard use of one-time authentication (OTA):

The second factor is implemented via OTA as standard. This method is flexible and user-friendly and can be used via mobile devices.

Optional use of YubiKeys:

In addition to OTA, it is possible to use YubiKeys as a second factor. The YubiKey is set up individually after the changeover.

What does this mean for you?

Please check your mobile devices and/or YubiKeys to ensure that you can access the 2FA system from 15 October 2025 onwards.
