Disruptions in the WLAN (eduroam) in the university library
#ufrstatus #stoerung Problems in the WLAN of the UB: within the UB there are increasing connection problems in eduroam. #wartung
Since the access points were replaced, there have been an increasing number of connection problems in the WLAN (eduroam).
- One reason was that the new access points went into operation with reduced transmission power, caused by an insufficient power supply. Since Wednesday 02.04.2025, the problem has been resolved by replacing the hardware. This means that more bandwidth can now be provided in the Wi-Fi infrastructure.
- Due to new WiFi standards, the access points must guarantee extended encryption mechanisms when establishing a connection. This particularly affects authentication in the eduroam network. As a result, some devices can only authenticate themselves in eduroam after several attempts.
The manufacturer has addressed the problem with intensive troubleshooting and various workarounds and we are working hard to find a solution.
For the time being, the problems relating to poor login to eduroam persist. As the error analysis continues, there may be further brief disruptions to the University Library's Wi-Fi next week.
