bwCloud reminder: downtime for hardware maintenance on December 12: As a reminder: On December 12, the bwCloud SCOPE at the Freiburg location will be unavailable throughout the entire day. During the downtime, we will implement new computer nodes and do maintenance work on the basic software. We cannot predict yet how long the server will offline.
Wednesday, December 11 2019: EvaSys Service Pack is installed.: Online surveys are possible again
User service closed due to illness: In urgent cases contact "nutzerservice@rz.uni-freiburg.de". Some processing time must be expected.
bwLehrpool user meeting 2019 in Mannheim: This year´s meeting as part of the bwLehrpool´s governance is taking place in Mannheim. Topics will include current developments, new features, feedback on the system as a whole as well as an outlook to future modules.
TSM: Linux Kernel Update on all 5 TSM server: This past weekend there were some interruptions in the operations. These happened because the machines had to be booted for the update and new tape library driver had to be compiled. During this time, no server instances were allowed to be active.

Partial boot malfunction at WM4 (solved): Update: Two computers were affected by the malfunction. The now booted normally after a restart. Before: Some computers in the common PC pool and the E-learning center at Werthmannstrasse 4 are currently experiencing booting malfunctions. The issue has not yet been solved, an employee is on his way.
bwLehrpool. Short outage at Werthmannstr. 4: The bwLehrpool outage at the general pool room of the Werthmanstrasse was fixed quickly this morning. It was caused by a wrongly configured service by a third party. Nevertheless, we apologize fo any inconvenience caused to the teachers and thank the support team for quickly resolving the issue.
Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 4 p.m. - HISinOne maintenance: The Campus Management System HISinOne (productive, demo and active test system) will be unavailable on Wednesday, December, 2019 from 4 p.m. for about 60 minutes due to the installation of some bug fixes.
Wednesday, November 27, 2019 from 3 p.m.: Interruption of radio connections around KGI: This coming Wednesday, starting at 3 p.m., the connections of the KGI tower are being moved in the KGII. This means that from 3 to approx. 9 p.m., the installations that are connected to the university network through the KGI tower will not be accessible. For the institutions connected this will affects the telephones, Wifi and the normal data network.
TSM: 22.11.19 from 7.30 a.m.: Interruption due to server migration: The library manager is being migrated to different hardware. This will likely lead to some interruptions in TSM operations.
December 12: bwCloud Downtime due to hardware maintenance: Due to a hardware extension on November 5, the bwCloud SCOPE at the Freiburg location will be unavailable all day. The goal is to improve partial aspects (double power connection for server, fast flash-only-ceph for special use cases).
bwCloud workshop reminder: Wednesday, November 27: Next week the last (for now) bwCloud workshop event will take place. Registration is only possible through HISinOne. In this workshop we want to go through the various features that the bwCloud offers, show how to best navigate it and which framework conditions exist. The workshop will evolve mainly around the bwCloud´s practical usage possibilities and around how you as a user can realize your projects with Dashboard and API.
Widespread issues with Wifi (eduroam): Currently, we are experiencing a lot of issues with the Wifi provision in the university building (for the technically interested: the address allocation to the end devices is not functioning properly). The cause of this is still unknown. The network department is working tirelessly on solving this issue.
Not receving emails or automatic university notifications?: Apparently, a lot of emails and automatic notifications regarding university topics (e.g. from HISinOne, ILIAS or MyAccount) are landing in the spam folders of many students and university guests with external email addresses, meaning they don´t receive the emails. This applies especially to Google (Gmail).
Flexible room composition in the Pools 9/9a at Werthmannstrasse 4: Now that the semester has started, demand for course rooms has gone up again. At the same time, the PC pool on the fourth floor of KGII has to be closed down, which will certainly lead to an increase of use for free learning. It is for that reason that the PC pool 9/9a will be available in separate and conjoined form.

Invitation to bwCloud SCOPE workshops: As part of internal training, the bwCloud is offering two dates for a workshop on the topic of cloud applicaiton possibilities and the scripted handling via API and Ansible.
Failure of multiple computer center services: On Thursday morning, various services failed for a longer period of time, including the IT Services homepage.
CMS portal interruptions on portal.uni-freiburg.de: We are currently experiencing some disruptions in the plone portals starting with portal.uni-freiburg.de. We are looking to solve this issie as soon as possible.
Storage outage bwCloud SCOPE: There are currently some interruptions in the bwCloud SCOPE storage systems. Interruptions are possible. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 4 p.m. - HISinOne maintenance: The Campus Management System HISinOne (productive, demo and active test system) will be unavailable on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 4 p.m. for about 60 minutes due to necessary maintenance work.
Exchange with colleagues from Université de Strasbourg about HPC, basic infrastructures and bwLehrpool: A part of the eScience deparment visited Strasburg in order to exchange ideas at the computer center/HPC center. The main talking points were current topics such as containerization, dealing with the parallel file system BeeGFS, the design of modern server rooms and specifically the use of bwLehrpool for flexible PC pools in teaching and for e-exams.
Impairments possible when accessing CMS portals: Throughout the afternoon (13.08.2019), a part of the CMS infrastructure is getting a new webserver.
TSM server "arch" back in operation: The server was migrated to new hardware and is now available again. Just to be safe, you should restart your TSM node or empty the DNS cache (should "arch.uni-freiburg.de" not be available).

Home Use Program Microsoft - News: Microsoft has changed their conditions regarding the Home Use Program. There are now no more Office Pro Plus 2019 buying licenses available for Mac and Windows. Microsoft now only offers a 30% discount for Office 365 Home and Personal.
UPDATE: TSM server "arch" not available on the weekend: The migration was cancelled on Sunday and had to be restarted. It will take another couple of hours. --- As of Saturday, August 10, in the morning, the server instance "arch" will be migrated to new hardware and software. The migration will take at least 12 hours. During this time, the server will not be available to clients.
