DataPLANT Consortium at NFDI Conference: DataPLANT - a NFDI (National Research Data Infrastructure) initiative focused on basic plant research - participated as one of the funded consortia at the Second NFDI Conference (online format) on 8 and 9 July 2020.
Confirmation of the NFDI Consortium "DataPLANT" by Joint Science Conference: The German Research Foundation is funding the "DataPLANT" consortium as part of the NFDI under the leadership of the University of Freiburg with approximately eleven million euros. The eScience department, together with researchers at the Freiburg Bio-Campus and throughout Germany, has launched and successfully applied for a "Fundamental Plant Research" initiative.
New SPSS licenses are available: New features: The new SPSS licenses including AMOS for the versions 25, 26 and 27 from the new framework agreement are now available for purchase in the Asknetshop. There are a few changes. Please read the notes.
bwLehrpool-remote: Function updates: The meanwhile widely accepted bwLehrpool-remote (remote access to bwLehrpool) was updated with regard to login and graphic resolution.
bwLehrpool - door signs and information boards (update): [Update 26.6.] The functionality behind the bwLehrpool info screens can be used not only for door signs but also to search for currently free computer pool places.
Closure and dismantling of the PC pools in KG II: Due to the imminent closure of the building, the PC pools in KG II operated by the University IT Services will be dismantled in the next few weeks. This location has already been replaced by the PC Pools in Werthmannstraße 4, the necessary structural renovations have been completed.
Wed. 2020-06-24, between 7:00 - 8:00 am: Maintenance work on the central firewall: Due to necessary maintenance work on the central firewall, there may be brief interruptions of internal services and the Internet during this period.
Personnel reinforcement for Research Data Management Group: As of July 1st, there will be personnel addition to the increasingly relevant area of research data management. The previously purely virtual organization RDMG will now be supplemented by a dedicated unit that will promote consulting, training, support and strategy development in this area.

Maintenance work on tape library on 2020-06-22: On Monday morning a library receives new firmware for all 12 drives. During the update no tape operation is possible. Archiving is not affected.
Adobe Connect maintenance break on Wednesday 2020-06-17 from 7:30: In the time between 7:30 am and 10:00 am the service is not available!
CMS portals/websites partly not reachable.: On the weekend of June 13 and 14, websites/portals were not accessible for several hours.
2020-06-09: Docata maintenance: Due to maintenance work, the Docata service will probably not be available on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 between 9:00 and 11:00 am.
2020-06-10 from 9pm: ILIAS maintenance break: The reason for the maintenance break is the import of bug fixes in ILIAS and system updates on the ILIAS servers.
bwLehrpool: Paper-like display on e-doorplates: By popular request, a more traditional paper-based doorplate representation is now displayed in front of the videoconference room.
New master agreement for SPSS: The University of Freiburg will again participate in the new master agreement between the University of Tübingen and IBM. The new licenses should be available from July onwards. The current licenses expire on June 30th, but can still be used until July 31st .
Constructional release in Werthmannstraße 4 granted: The necessary renovation work on the sound insulation ceiling has been carried out and the rooms have been handed over to normal use. However, the current regulations still apply here. Currently, only limited forms of use such as examinations or distributed computing are possible.

Remote bwLehrpool as alternative access during pool closure: The remote bwLehrpool access as an alternative solution will be expanded step by step. Faculties planning to have access to their pools in this way, should simply contact the bwLehrpool team. A password-protected virtual room will then be created.
Storage system for research data management at University IT Services in procurement: For the storage system bwSFS, which was applied for and put out to tender together with the NEMO communities, the contract could now be awarded. Various participants responsbile for data archiving and publication needs at the University of Freiburg in close cooperation with the colleagues at the University of Tübingen were involved.
bwLehrpool: Biology pool rooms converted to University Pool Concept: The computer pools of the Biology II Institute, Schänzlestraße, have been adapted to the University Pool Concept. This includes the boot selection server, a separate network and, of course, the teaching and training pool.
Remote bwLehrpool - extended prototype and live tests: After extensive tests and evaluations, the basic module of Remote bwLehrpool was stable enough to be used in practice. Some course organizers were already curious to test it, and it works so far. However, there were also some challenges.
bwCloud, recovery completed: After the malfunction of the bwCloud over the weekend, affected virtual machines (VMs) and data carriers (volumes) have been restored.
Adobe Connect licenses currently fully utilized: As already communicated on several occasions, the University of Freiburg has obtained a license for a maximum of 200 simultaneous users for Adobe Connect. This limit is currently reached, as a result please switch to the below mentioned alternatives.
The reported zoom accounts have been set up: If you have just received an e-mail saying that Tamara Ursprung has set up a zoom account for you, it is not spam! You can activate your zoom account.
bwLehrpool: Help for corona drug development: Due to the current circumstances, a large part of the existing pool computers are not being used. In order to utilize this potential for the benefit of the general public, the bwLehrpool team, at the suggestion of a physics student, is carrying out calculations for the folding@home project on currently idle pool computers. These are not overlapping with the "bwLehrpool Remote" offer.
Wednesday, March 31, 2020 from 4 p.m. - HISinOne maintenance: The Campus Management System HISinOne (productive, demo and active test system) will be unavailable on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 from 4 p.m. for about 60 minutes due to the installation of some bug fixes.
