Continuing scientific education
Scientific continuing education represents an important field of activity of the University of Freiburg in addition to teaching and research. The diverse offering consists of certificate programs, continuing education programs that enable the acquisition of a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) and a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) according to the Swissuni-Model, as well as continuing education programs that conclude with an academic master's degree.
The modularized course offering is carried out in blended learning mode, i.e. as a combination of tutorial-supervised online learning phases, which account for approximately 80% of the study program, and face-to-face events, which usually take place once or twice per semester in Freiburg. The high proportion of online learning phases takes into account the compatibility of work and further education. Working people thus have the opportunity to gain further qualifications on a part-time basis in forward-looking areas of cultural studies and the humanities, life sciences, medicine and medical technology, environmental sciences, technology and engineering, and economics.
Since 2009, the E-Learning department has provided central support for the university's online continuing education programs in the following areas:
- Development of usage concepts and demand-oriented further development of the IT infrastructure.
- Provision and operation of a learning management system (WB-ILIAS) specially adapted to the needs of the continuing education programs, as well as a platform for online meetings, virtual seminars, group work and lectures (Adobe Connect)
- Didactic-technical consulting and support in the areas of e-learning, media use and development of online teaching materials
- Coordination of further services and IT services of the computer center
Implementation of training and qualification measures
The E-Learning department works closely with the Freiburg Academy for University Continuing Education (FRAUW), which coordinates the University of Freiburg's continuing education offerings.
