VPN
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and makes it possible to establish a secure connection from your computer to the university via the Internet in order to use internal resources from outside the university if necessary.
VPN dial-in gives you an IP address in the University of Freiburg network.
You must install the VPN client software once on your notebook or PC. When establishing a connection to the university network, authenticate yourself with your university account with the addition @uni-freiburg.de (e.g. xy999@uni-freiburg.de - not your e-mail address!) and the eduroam password (RAS password).
Note: Instructions are available for Mac-OS, but the RZ cannot offer support for this.

The FortiClient can be installed via the respective store of the operating system (Play Store/Apple Store). For Android, for example, it is called FortiClient VPN. Please note that you must install the unlicensed client.
You can then configure the VPN connection as SSL VPN or IPSEC VPN.
e.g. for Android:
SSL VPN:
- Tunnel name: any name
- Port: 443
- Servers: fortivpn.uni-freiburg.de
- Username: your-uniAccount-id@uni-freiburg.de
IPSEC VPN:
- Tunnel Name: any name
- Server Settings:
- Servers: fortivpn.uni-freiburg.de
- Authorization Method: Pre-Shared Key
- Pre-Shared Key: homeoffice
- IPSEC Xauth Settings:
- XAuth enabled? Enabled
- Username: your-uniAccount-id@uni-freiburg.de
- Password: eduroam/VPN password
The configuration should be similar for Apple.
Please note:
Please contact the Digital Library of the University Library in advance to find out whether your desired e-journal or database must be accessed via VPN or whether you can access your desired database via "MyLogin" with user ID and "MyAccount password".
