Software

The University IT Services provides software for PC workstations and computer labs as well as coordinates the procurement of campus lisences and special software lisence agreements for all facilities and faculties. The software shop is available for institutes, facilities and students to acquire software for research and teaching at reduced prices.

Affinity Photo, Designer & Publisher
The IT Service Center has acquired licenses for the Affinity software from Serif. Employees can purchase this licenses from the IT Service Center at a reasonable price. Students can use the software in the pool rooms of the IT Service Center.
ASKnet - Freiburg University's online software shop
The ASKnet online shop is where all Freiburg University members can order research and teaching software at reduced prices, request updates to current licenses or upload software onto your personal computer. You can also browse the available software without logging in to the website.
AutoDesk
AutoDesk offers 2-D and 3-D tools for modeling and simulation of projects. Students and teachers can use the software for free.
ChemDraw Professional - Campus License
The Freiburg University is in position of a campus license by ChemDraw Professional. The license is valid until 08th February 2025.
Citavi - Campus License
Citavi is a software program for literature management and knowledge organization.
ESRI ArcGIS - Baden-Württemberg License
ESRI offers a worldwide leading geographical information system (GIS): ArcGIS. Moreover, multiple extensiosn with space-related data are available.
Foxit Phantom PDF Editing Software
The IT Service Center has acquired licenses for Foxit Esitor software from Foxit. Employees can purchase these licenses from the IT Service Center at a reasonable price. Students can use the software in the pool rooms of the IT Service Center.
LabView - Collective License
LabVIEW ("Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Engineering Workbench") is a graphic development environment for scalable design-, control-, regulate-, and test-applications and it allows users to register real signals, to gain meaningful information from raw data through data analysis as well as through collective use of results through intuitive displays, reports, and the internet.
Mathematica
Freiburg University has rented a Mathematica Campus License.
MATLAB and Simulink by Mathworks - Baden-Württemberg License
MATLAB is a high level language for technical computation and an interactive environment, for example, for visualizing and analyzing data or numerical calculations.
MAXQDA - Qualitative and quantitative data and text analaysis
University students can borrow licenses for MaxQDA Plus (acquired centrally by the IT Services) or use MAXQDA Analytics Pro on campus, both free of charge. Employees and researchers may seek consultation regarding the acquisition thereof.
Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus for Students
As of December 2013 students in Baden-Württemberg can acquire Microsoft Office 365 at low cost.
Microsoft Windows and Office for employees
The computer center has joined the university master agreement with Microsoft. This allows university employees to use Windows and Office for their work devices.
OriginPro Campus license
Parallels for PhD students
The joint working committee of the PhD Conventions (short GAA) has procured some rental licenses of Parallels for MacOS. PhD students can borrow the software temporarily.
Screenpresso
Screenpresso is a user-friendly screenshot tool, which you can use to take photos or videos of your desktop, to edit them, and to directly insert them into documents, presentations, or emails.
SPSS by IBM - Discounted Campus License
The SPSS statistics software packages are available to University members through the software shop. The University IT Services holds a contract to sell these licenses; however, they cannot be sold from the University IT Services directly.
Zoom Video Conferencing
The University of Freiburg has procured a quota of licenses for the video conferencing solution of the company Zoom Video Communications Inc.. Zoom can be used for lectures and seminars.
f4 Transkript und Analyse for Students
Thanks to the student proposal budget, the IT service center has procured some f4 transcript and analysis licenses which students can borrow.
Video conference platforms
Since most of the teaching in the summer semester, as well as meetings in research and administration, need to take place digitally, the computer center has compiled an overview of the available video conference solutions.
